What is TIDE?
➤ TIDE stands for Treatment Interrupts Depression Early.
Depression can affect people of all ages, but is most commonly experienced for the first time during adolescence, as a young person is approaching adulthood. The way depression feels, the impact it has, and how it progresses over time varies from person to person. Many treatment options exist to manage depression, but no single treatment works for everyone. Often, several treatments need to be tried before finding the one that works.
➤ TIDE is a research study that provides treatment for depression.
Our goal is to find out which specific treatment works best for young individuals experiencing depression for the first time. To do this, we collect information, provide treatment, and keep track of how our participants fare over time. If we can predict which treatment is most likely to work for someone, we can help people recover from depression with the first treatment they try.
➤ TIDE aims to identify factors that predict recovery to simplify treatment choice and improve outcomes.
What traits might determine whether someone will benefit from one type of treatment over another? To find out, eligible young people experiencing depression for the first time receive highest quality, established treatments for depression under the supervision of a Nova Scotia Health psychiatrist. The data we collect from TIDE participants will allow researchers and clinicians to help young people experiencing depression get the treatment they need.
